Hamilton

’til the world turns upside down

In a world without Covid-19, this is where I was supposed to be right now, belting out the familiar lyrics to Hamilton alongside the cast and half the audience.

As the weeks and months go by, there will be many such moments hitting each of us:

  • Exams
  • Prom
  • Surgeries
  • Weddings
  • Graduations
  • Summer internships

Many of these events can be re-scheduled. Some would have marked a specific moment in time. Other missed opportunities may forever change the direction of our future.

Markers in time

More importantly, these would have been mental markers that we had each made. A date on a calendar that signified a line in the sand; a before and after; something we were aiming for.

Without that marker we may be feeling adrift.

So replace it. Catch yourself. Give yourself a closer marker – something feasible and within reach so that you are able to again track the movement of time. It could be creating something tangible such as a piece of art, writing a short book or planting a mini-garden.

Social distancing is a gift we give each other.

This is a collective sacrifice so that the world may heal quicker and stronger – together.

Its a different kind of herd mentality, protecting as many as possible within the herd.

It does not make the loss any less felt, but it gives it purpose. Let’s not squander that purpose.  We are all in this together – many sacrificing so much more than a mere visit to the theatre.

Let’s all hang in there, and work together

’til the world turns upside down
