Video: Take yourself on a TILT date

Is it time for a TILT date?

Where do you stand against your 2020 goals at this moment? If you, like many of us, are looking at dramatically different progress reports then it is time for a Tilt date.

Pick a day and revisit those goals.
Choose to throw out the goals that will no longer apply given the new economic conditions.
Then take a look at your goals that had a longer time horizon. How can you readjust your strategy & tactics for those particular goals?
Can you replace some goals with new attainable ones?

Let us not let this crisis rob us of our agency.
We can still make 2020 a different kind of productive year.

This is the last week of May.

In many parts of the world, the May holidays have come to signal the unofficial start of the summer season, and in some countries will also signal the easing of the COVID-19 quarantine regulations.

You may be looking at the date, feeling that much of the year has blended, maybe even wasted. All the routines that gave rhythm to your day have dissolved, and there is little to count on as success against your goals.

But is that so?

Lets pull out your goals for 2020.

Some of them will surely be off schedule, maybe even no longer needed.

But if your goal was one of those with a longer time horizon:

  • find a life partner
  • buy a house
  • get fit
  • go on a wonderful vacation
  • get a degree
  • get promoted

surely these are still your goals & dreams?

The how – the short term tactics – may need to be adjusted, but you still want the same end result.

So go back to the drawing board, and have a TILT date with yourself.

Take a long hard look, and figure out what goals are no longer viable, which are temporarily shelved and which need to be re-adjusted.

You are still the same person, with most of the same dreams for yourself. It just means that instead of taking the highway to get you were going, you may now be on the scenic route, or maybe even the dirt-track.
Or potentially, the job trajectory you thought would take you 3 years is now available to you within 6 months with some focused up-skilling.

So adjust. Reset the parameters around your expectations. And learn how to enjoy this ride.

Call to Action – Set that TILT date with yourself

So my invitation to you is:

  • Adjust.
  • Reset the parameters around your expectations.
  • Learn how to enjoy this ride.
  • Go back to the drawing board and set about thinking of a different way to get to where you want to go.
  • Make a plan.
  • Jump!

If you enjoy this TILT date experience, consider making it a regular check-in. I do it annually on my half-birthday. A moment to acknowledge my rotation around the sun, and remind myself of what I want to accomplish and how. You may choose a different day, maybe multiple dates.

I’m Karena de Souza. This is an episode from Tilt the Future where we talk about changing your mindset and using that to explore new opportunities.

See you next time.
