2022

Write the 2022 that is right for you

A Note From My Future Self

New Year 2022. Don’t stress it. It’s just a day of the week. A box on a wall calendar (granted, the first one). There is no perfect way to enter this new year. Just the way that works for you.

2022 planning

It will be a busy year, no matter what.
You will be surprised, no matter what.
You will probably be disappointed along the way.
That’s right – there is much that will be out of your control.

But where you find control, grasp it and hold onto it so that you can find somewhere to plant yourself and create stability for a while.

Here are some ways you can make things happen:

  • Show up. Position yourself to have some interesting things to record each day. A zoom chat with a friend. IRL coffee with a relative. Remember a beautiful phrase. Or the shape of the clouds scurrying across a windy sky as you take a walk. Is there an aroma or a gesture that stands out? Be present. Is there a question that is puzzling, or a solution that intrigues you? Be open to new ideas. Oh – and don’t forget to journal daily!
  • Plan Tomorrow Today” Pencil in the day you want to have tomorrow. Be proactive and prepared, rather than reactive. Plan your year in 90-day cycles. A quarter / 12-weeks / 3-months space is long enough to get something done. And enough time to plan a course-correction for the year if needed.
  • When in doubt, let your chosen words for the year guide you. Last year that was CONNECT. This year more than one showed up: “SIMPLY” “HUMBLY” “NO”.

Tomorrow is the first blank page of a 365-page book. Write a good one. – Brad Paisley

Make Great Memories

Then go out there and “Make Great Memories”. It is advice my Aunt Alba offered when I turned 21: “Make Great Memories. They will sustain you in those inevitable moments when life turns bleak. When you have something fun and loving to look back on, it gives you a ray of hope to hang onto, so you can find your way back to the light.” Create a year that is going to be wonderful to look back on.

2022 awaits!

Self-direction is a pivotal 21st-century skill, necessary in the Future of Work. Whether it is working solo from home, or learning something innovative so we can stay competitive. Creating plans and goals for ourselves and our work for the year falls within this space.

2021 taught us to stay flexible in our plans. Babies born during a pandemic that is coming up for the two-year mark remind us that time and development move on even while the world stands still. As we head into 2022 we need to continue to grow and develop as individuals. So we choose to grow with grace and self-compassion.

Wishing each of you in our community of Tilters an amazing year ahead.

Karena

PS. By the way, the “Future” of Work is already a work in progress, so we may have to start calling it the new world of work WoW!
