New beginnings

The podcast episode ‘New beginnings’ here:

A stream of ‘New’s

I woke up this morning to a stream of ‘new’s:

  1. Canada had announced its new government – a minority government for the Liberals which means they are going to have to learn to negotiate with the other parties in order to deliver changes that Canada’s citizens are seeking
  2. A friend of mine started a new job. It is a great job, but after a number of decades in her previous role, she gets to learn new organizational structures and power trees, new vocabulary and to make a difference in a location that means a lot to her personally
  3. I received a text announcing the birth of a first baby to a dear friend. Immediately I remembered that precious first week when you make that dramatic leap from having been someone’s child to become someone’s parent – and starting the new dynamics that will define your life for the coming 20 years.

Transitions

New is about transitions.
A gentle walk from what was before to what is next.

Sometimes that transition is as short as a deep breathe.
Other times, it can take up to a few years.

It is a process, this leaving of the old to embrace the new.

Future of Work

As we head into an ambiguous Future of Work that is undefined and amorphous, the ability to deal with transitions will prove to be a key EQ skill for those who find success.

Those who understand and are prepared for the familiar stage of discomfort, will be better positioned. They will have the anchor, the security and the confidence from which to figure out which way next.

Strategy

Turning a transition into an opportunity is a skill.  Hold onto something from your old world until you find the rhythm of your new days.

Whatever the new beginnings and transitions that you are embracing, I wish you the joy of noticing it while within that journey.
