Things I am grateful for:
- I can speak to all the members of my family globally via the myriad technologies that connect us.
- The health staff taking care of the patients in countries across the globe.
- First responders who are keeping the peace.
- Garbage workers cleaning up after us and grocery staff who are keeping us stocked and fed.
- Cousins and friends who pass along calm and medical know how when you begin to think you are ill.
- The bird call as I wake up in the morning, signifying an early end to winter here in Ontario.
Almost at the end of my 14 days of isolation I find that I seriously over-estimated all the projects that I would complete in 14 days when the days rolled forward, empty before me. I had started my list while on my long plane ride back, and was actually looking forward to catching up with myself!
Over-estimated
Scanning and archiving the family photos. Re-organizing my office. Reading 3 books. Creating a 14-day trove of podcasts and articles. Binge watching Netflix movies. Maybe even knitting again.
Such dreams!
Under-estimated
Did you find yourself at your desk longer? With less physical separation of work and living, I found myself reaching back for one last email, or racing to an early morning zoom call, coffee still in hand.
I am amazed and grateful for the number of people who have reached out to touch base from all corners of my life – past and present. I have made new friendships via zoom.
I’ve particularly enjoyed my conversations with younger friends and acquaintances who have normally communicated through text or email. Conversations have been longer, deeper, more fulfilling and relationship-building.

Where have you found an abundance during these past weeks?
